Location and maps

“Use my location” asks for your browser’s permission to use your location. If you have already allowed location access, the map may use it automatically when you haven’t selected an area and there is no previously viewed area. We use device coordinates in memory to sort places by distance and centre the map. Your precise device coordinates aren’t added to shared search links or sent to our database.

Map tiles and styles load from OpenFreeMap. Those requests expose your IP address and the map area you’re viewing to the map provider. The map’s last position is kept in local storage in this browser so we can restore it on your next visit; it may reflect the area around your location. You can remove it by clearing this site’s browser data. “Search this area” adds the visible map bounds to the address and to links you share.

Suggestions

The suggestion form doesn’t ask for your name, contact details, home address or device coordinates. Please don’t include personal information in the free-text fields.

When the form says “Send suggestion”, your entries go to a private review queue in our database (hosted by Supabase). Only the site editor can read it. Suggestions are unverified and never change a public listing automatically. To limit abuse, we keep a one-way, daily-changing fingerprint of your network address for up to 24 hours. It isn’t stored with your suggestion and can’t be turned back into the address. We also keep hourly totals of how often limits and bot checks trip; these contain no addresses.

Before a suggestion is sent, the form runs a bot check from Cloudflare Turnstile. Cloudflare processes your IP address and signals from your browser and device to tell people from automated traffic. Its script loads only on the suggestion form, and only when sending is available; downloading a draft doesn’t load it. When you send a suggestion, our server passes the check result and your IP address back to Cloudflare to confirm it, and uses your IP address only to rate-limit as described above.

When the form says “Download draft”, nothing is sent: the draft stays on your device. Corrections to fictional preview listings are always drafts.

Other services

The site’s hosting provider may process normal request information such as IP addresses and URLs to serve the website. Fonts currently load from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address. Links to directions, booking pages, photographs and operators open services with their own privacy practices.
